American Air Museum, Duxford

As part of a new initiative by the Imperial War Museum to reduce overheating within the American War Museum in Duxford, these visualisations – alongside thermal and daylight analysis – were commissioned to assess the visual and environmental impact of the proposed shading strategies. With minimal lead times, environmental readings and photometric data were brought together into these renderings to convey the impact for visitors and exhibit coordinators alike.

The building, designed by Foster and Partners and awarded the Stirling Prize in 1998, required extensive surveying and texture analysis to ensure accurate results. Due to confidentiality reasons, only the existing state visualisations are shown above.
